The Centenary Quilt
The quilt was created by parents and children as part of the school’s centenary celebrations in 2004.
Craft club worked with their tutor Carole Hart to represent 100 years of Sandhurst School. They decided that they would use recycled materials and after working on their plans began by dying their recycled fabrics to create exactly the materials they needed.

The individual patches represent our diverse culture, the learning that takes place at our school and some of the important developments of the century.
The poppy is particularly significant as it reminds us of the children and teachers who lost their lives in the bombing of the school in 1943 and our hopes for peace in the future.
The Magpie is significant because in the past there were many magpies nesting in the school grounds and so it was the school logo for many years before the willow tree became the logo.
The individual designs of the children and parents who worked on the quilt were appliquéd on to the patches and then joined together to make the finished article.
The quilt received a ‘Highly Commended’ Award in the Kent Quilting Exhibition at Knowle Park in 2004 and is now displayed in pride of place on the link between the two school buildings.
